Before the Brexit referendum Farage said that he was so certain that Britain would be better off without Europe that if it wasn't a complete success HE WOULD LEAVE THESE SHORES FOREVER! He admitted in 2022 that Brexit had failed the working class and yet he is still here. The man is a charlatan and cannot be trusted to tell the truth. He will say whatever his billionaire backers tell him to say and pray that he is believed because, in truth, he wants the ruling class back in the position of deciding everything for the masses.
I can't help but think that we are preaching to the converted. I don't think those who never fact check anything uttered by Farage or his backers will ever read the posts here.
I wouldn't be so certain, Dave. Lots of very sensible people still assume that all politicians have at least SOME scruples and it does no harm to make sure they know that's an unsafe assumption where Farage is concerned. And, from elsewhere on the political spectrum, my in-box regularly presents me with 'helpful advice' from unthinking Farage loyalists about what I can do with - or where I can shove - my views on their Great Leader. No harm either showing them we're not going to take this lying down.
So many of our politicians since 2010 have been unable, or unwilling, to tell the truth. Cameron said "We're all in this together" as he robbed the poor to give to the rich. Johnson said "Let the bodies pile up and we'll soon see if lockdown helps" all before giving away the NHS budget to his cronies, backers and supporters so they could inundate the NHS with out of date PPE, if they provided anything at all!
He identifies subjects that concern parts of the UK population and firstly magnifies the populist "problem".
This is quickly followed by his "solution" e. g. send back all illegal immigrants.
That's where he stops, because he knows that he has no idea how to carry out these hare brain ideas or what the disastrous effects would be.
Personally I blame the national media and their obsession with interesting "personalities".
They continuously fail to challenge him and him and his simplistic ideas.
For example one of his ideas is to send migrant boats back to France and dump them on their beaches.
In interviews I have seen, no one has questioned him on the elephant in the room : there is absolutely no way that the French Government would allow such a thing, thus showing the public that his solutions cannot work and in fact cannot be called solutions.
They are just methods to try to convince the public that only he can solve the nation's problems.
The mainstream media aid and abett him in his twisted enterprise.
Farage and his like are pluto-populist charlatans: always remember who's interests they really represent and how they will sell our NHS to their billionaire mates in the USA at the earliest opportunity. The UK represents a possibly massive new market for US healthcare interests and they are salivating already, and "bank-rolling" appropriately I'm sure.
As for pluto-populism, remember that word: to be able to label something accurately and succinctly gives us power over it, as does being able to see how it fits within broader patterns:
As far as I can see, from personal experience, large numbers of people, whatever or whoever they support, never fact check anything, so, of course, they won’t fact check Farage. They deal with things by moaning after the event has happened.
The trouble we have in tackling farage / johnson / et al is that their points are rarely if ever refuted in a way that huys hone with those who lean towards their simplistic analyses.
... cut immigration: the argument that the NHS needs it is not great. We do not allow enough training places in healthcare and social care roles from doctors, nirses, or other roles. This is a stupid policy. We should offer more trainee places. And maybe offer a bursary or something to those born in the UK (regardless of ethnicity, btw).
... abolish net zero: there is a strong suspicion that our net zero strategy is mainly offshoring our CO2 emissions, costing us money and reducing our resilience. If so, then... it is a stupid policy and it should be paused. Personally i would look to invest the funds in wind power (onshore and off) and solar, with nuclear and storage developed to cover the lulls in supply. I might be wrong, but i dont see any coherent case being made that net zero is good for us.
Good read but dare I suggest that despite the acknowledgements of “understandable anger”, the other side of the equation ie ‘serious politicians’, those in power etc are guilty of a similar sleight of hand. Taking the example of Farage and immigration as the article does, I've yet to hear any serious politician even acknowledge, even less break down and discuss all the complexities of the subject, including understanding which aspects people are most concerned about and why. People can see this and that this is where freedom of speech also coalesce as a concern - we collectively unable and unwilling to have these difficult conversations in an open and honest way, warts and all.
Yep, I agree Neil. Farage's pledges to sort immigration or whatever are not that different to Labour's Change agenda, or all party trumpeted milestones/pledges/priorities which are rarely examined

I remember that, Dave! A triple-A grade charlatan.

Not just Farage, Johnson, Starmer, Truss, Cameron, Blair, Major and Thatcher had no scruples and were/are selling England by the Pound.
You are so right Mark
Farage could never tell the truth

All of them are total murders & they have to go

Well farage had better leave the UK & never come back
These days rarely look even once at what this gentleman says. Watchful waiting is my position.
Least said, soonest mended.

you three questions are to wordy and imprecise.
How
Who
When
Perhaps your first line should read:-
Your three questions are too wordy and I precise. Otherwise, agree (Ho, ho, LOL)
